Villa Ghetaldi 1516

A luxurious experience that fuses the charm of Renaissance architecture with the highest standards of modern living

introduction

Villa Ghetaldi 1516, located on the island of Šipan, was, as the name suggests, built in 1516 and is steeped in history. This project focused on the restoration of a neglected villa that once served as a summer residence for the nobility of Dubrovnik. The goal was to respect its rich history while providing a refined, modern experience for visitors. The Renaissance ideals that shaped the villa—humanism, a connection with nature, and a balanced, understated elegance—guided every decision in its restoration. The outdoor spaces, including terraces and the area around the pool, surrounded by Renaissance-style gardens, needed to be furnished with pieces that honor the estate while maintaining comfort and sophistication.

project description

The primary goal of the renovation was to honor the rich cultural and historical significance of Villa Ghetaldi 1516 while adapting it to meet the needs of  travelers who love luxury. It was crucial to preserve the architectural integrity of this protected cultural monument, respecting original design elements such as stone facades, wooden beams, terracotta floors, and other features, while discreetly incorporating modern amenities. Every decision aimed to balance historical authenticity with providing a welcoming, comfortable space for modern living.

Collaboration proces

From the very beginning, we worked closely with the client to bring their vision for the outdoor spaces to life. They visited our showroom in Belgium, where we discussed their ideas and provided tailored advice on materials, colors, and designs. This hands-on approach allowed us to share valuable insights and ensure that the furniture aligned perfectly with the villa’s aesthetic.

“One of the key advantages of this collaboration was the ability to customize the furniture to our specifications, including the selection of colors, dimensions, and materials. The mood board we created together perfectly captured the essence of the villa.”

A key aspect of the project was selecting materials that could withstand the Mediterranean climate while maintaining a luxurious and timeless aesthetic. In collaboration with the client, we chose the Durbuy and Durham collections, known for their durability and elegance. The aluminum furniture, finished in a soft sand mat with matching rope details, blended effortlessly with the villa’s natural surroundings, including the stone facades and earthy tones of the outdoor spaces. The color palette of the cushions and decorative pillows also complemented the villa’s architecture, from the terracotta roofs to the sparkling pool. The Durbuy collection, featuring voluminous Sunbrella cushions, provided not only exceptional durability and weather resistance but also the comfort and sophistication desired by the guests. To complete the look, we added Elko side tables and Burford coffee tables, all finished in the same refined aluminum, ensuring a cohesive and harmonious outdoor setting.

A unique challenge was the logistical aspect since Villa Ghetaldi 1516 is located on an island. However, our extensive experience with delivering furniture to remote locations ensured that everything was transported efficiently and on time.

result

The result was a harmonious blend of elegance and functionality in the outdoor spaces of Villa Ghetaldi 1516. The clean, sophisticated lines of the furniture not only complemented the historical ambiance of the villa but also provided a comfortable and durable solution for modern living. The outdoor spaces were designed to enhance the natural beauty of Ĺ ipan, offering guests a peaceful retreat that merges history with contemporary comfort.

Our experience with Jati & Kebon has been outstanding. Their commitment to craftsmanship and design has significantly enriched the ambiance of Villa Ghetaldi 1516, seamlessly integrating into its surroundings and creating a luxurious yet functional outdoor space.
